"Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food."   ~Hippocrates
"Enchant, stay beautiful and graceful, but do this, eat well. Bring the same consideration to the preparation of your food as you devote to your appearance.” Charles Pierre Monselet

To encourage you to take charge of your own health…

Evolved Nutrition

Our habit of eating is the last thing we will change voluntarily. We will change our religion, politics, career, nationality and marital status more easily than what we put in our mouths.

We invite you to make some changes in your diet and note the effect on your body. You might be surprised at how much better you will feel. As we grow older, indigestion often seems to be a common problem. Our eating habits, low quality food, stress, lack of digestive enzymes, and insufficient intestinal flora can all be signs that your digestion process needs help. Before taking over-the-counter drugs, pharmaceuticals and even supplements, make some simple changes in your lifestyle.

For example, say a blessing of gratitude before you eat your meal, considering all the energy that has gone into producing it. Chew slowly and thoughtfully, allowing the natural enzymes in the saliva to begin the digestive process. Instead of rushing through your meal, savor its taste, aroma and presentation.

Wait until well after eating to drink anything, especially cold fluids that slow down and inhibit digestion. Advocating food combining makes digestion easier on the body. Keeping proteins separate from carbohydrates ensures less gas and putrification. Most health food stores carry books or charts on food combining and they can also be found for free on the internet. (see the following web-site)…

Simple home remedies, such as teas and herbs…chamomile, peppermint, lemon-balm and licorice root have all been used for centuries as digestive aids. Season your food with ginger, cayenne, curry and natural sea-salt, all which are known for their digestive benefits.

To help reduce or prevent gas and bloating, chew a pinch of anise, cardamom, cumin, dill, or fennel at/or between meals. Lowered levels of hydrochloric acid have been linked to gastric ulcers and even stomach ulcers.

Try adding a dietary supplement like Universal Formulas Vegetarian HCL #1016 (90caps/$19.00) with your next protein meal and experience the difference it can make. Ironically, antacids often make indigestion worse because many people produce too little, than too much hydrochloric acid. While HCL is strong enough to kill most bacteria that enter the stomach, pathogens that do get through can cause ulcers and yeast infections.

Inhibitors like Nexium, Prevacid or Prilosec, as well as TUMS, are also linked to bacterial overgrowth in the digestive tract, because it lowers the pH. Probiotics, such as Flora-Zymes #1003 (180caps/$25) will increase beneficial bacteria in the gut, and ward off disease-causing bacteria, as well as parasites and yeast. This flora breaks down cellulose (plant fiber) for which our bodies don’t make an enzyme, and lactose (milk sugar) for which many people lack an enzyme as well.

Be your own “food-guru” and avoid foods that seem to bother you. A bi-yearly fast and colon-cleansing is also good for your bodies assimilation and detoxification.

We are here to assist you in finding the foods and supplements that will become your medicine for vibrant health. We are here to educate, illuminate and support your individual dietary needs.
